Holotrek is an MU* role playing (RP) game, taking place in the Star Trek Universe. This is the Holotrek Wiki.
As a new visitor, you are probably wondering where you have arrived and what this place holds. Holotrek is a role playing simulation of the Star Trek experience, with an entire galaxy full of races, governments and intrigue. It is a universe where the United Federation of Planets continues its mission of peace, the militaristic Klingon Empire stalks new enemies, the mysterious Romulan Star Empire uncompromisingly expands its domain, the proud Cardassian Union rebuilds its strength, the distant Dominion lurks uneasily in the Gamma Quadrant, and the shrewd Ferengi Alliance purchases the entire universe bit by bit... or at least attempts to do so.
This is the world of Star Trek, as you have seen it on TV.
Holotrek started in parallel with the Deep Space Nine seasons, and while some changes occurred via RP, we pay a very close attention to staying truthful to Star Trek feelings, ideas, and concepts. Canon is highly regarded.
Role playing is the act of taking on the role of a usually imaginary character in a usually imaginary world and acting that character out in the way that character would act in the world he or she is in. Here on HoloTrek we combine MU* code and RP.
Holotrek is not a conventional MUD or MOO; all players are primarily role players and only use code and coded items to highlight the gaming experience.
Some of our members have started blogs for their characters, personal logs in the Star Trek world. You can find them here. The information in the blogs is considered OOC knowledge.
The official Holotrek website can be found here.
History
Holotrek began in 1998, grown out of its predecessor HoloMOO, which was created in 1995. With 10+ years of events, hundreds of characters and plot twists, our history is complex, involving and, at times, convoluted. This wiki represents our best attempt at sifting out the political intrigue, categorizing the creation and destruction of worlds, and outlining the detailed lives of sentients across the Alpha and Beta quadrants.
Codebase
Holotrek is coded using ColdC. A list of other servers can be found here.
